Reflex, on Ironmarket in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, is hosting a family fun day to support the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, affectionately known as the ‘Dougie Mac’, on Saturday 16th November. The event coincides with the big reveal of Newcastle-Under-Lyme’s Christmas lights, that will be switched that afternoon, a stone’s throw away from the bar.

Families attending Reflex’s family fun day will be able to visit Santa Claus, and his band of elves, in the bar’s very own ‘Santa’s Grotto’, from 2pm on the day. Children are encouraged to bring along their Christmas lists to hand into the man in red, as well as sneak in the odd selfie too!

The bar will be decked out with all things Christmas for the day, from the specially erected grotto, to warm mince pies, allowing revellers to fully embrace the festive spirit. There will be face painting, a cake sale and a children’s disco to add to the fun, as well as hot and cold drinks. The team from Dougie Mac will also be on hand throughout the afternoon, taking part in the activities and to helping the Reflex team raise money for the hospice.

The Dougie Mac Hospice is a local charity that provides hospice services free of charge for over 3,000 patients a year in the North Staffordshire area, as well as giving supportive care to their families and carers. Its staff and volunteers are dedicated to making a positive difference to patient’s journey, in whatever way they can.

Steve Murphy, General Manager of Reflex and organiser of the event, said: “The temperature is dropping, and the days are getting shorter, and that means just one thing – its Christmas time! The annual switch-on of the lights is something we all look forward to round here, so we thought why not go all out and invite Santa along to the party too.

“Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities. We’re right in the middle of town, so whether people want to come in to warm up or they want to spend the whole afternoon with us, there will be something for everyone – we’ve even organised a couple of early Christmas presents for those children who have been particularly good this year!

“We are really proud to be teaming up with guys at Dougie Mac. They provide an invaluable service to the people in our community and we can’t thank them enough! I hope our fundraiser will go some way to contributing to the amazing work that they do. I really want to say a massive thank you to my team who have been instrumental in helping me put this together, especially my Team Leader, Jessica Eardley, who has been amazing!”
