THE, CENTURIES OLD, LANDMARK GOLDEN LION, once a haunt of Highwaymen, has once again adapted to the needs of Bexleyheath of today after a £200,000 refurbishment.

The pub reopened on Monday 25th September, its yesteryear reputation as a stop off point to refresh and be entertained enhanced with modern day craft beers, breakfasts to supper pub food, and uninterrupted sports viewing.

Eight new jobs have been created with an increased food menu, sports table service, and doubled in size all-year-round beer garden, with undercover seating and ambient lighting.

The VIP event, was attended byMayor Peter Reader andshowcased the first of many big nights out with fizz and menu tasters before a well-known DJ welcomed back customers to the fresh and welcoming Golden Lion.

Eight of the latest technology HD TV screens airing both Sky and BT Sports will show all sports from football to boxing and horseracing – there’s even a HD screen outside and with table service during big games the excitement need never be missed.

“The Golden Lion has got a huge history in Bexleyheath so it’s great to be able to deliver this investment.” said manager Adam Howell.

Craft Beers will rotate between Meantime London lager, Punk IPA and Hophouse 13 with a Cask Ale range rotating between local and national brews. It’s Gin o’clock time features all the best botanicals with paired tonics – a modern trend that for many customers is also reminiscent of the past whilst party bowls of ‘Tutti Frutti’ and ‘Cherry Blush’ and 2-4-1 cocktails all day every day are definitely not from the pub’s coaching inn era.

Now offering breakfast from 10.00am and pub classics like steak and ale pie and fish and chips at 2 for £7.49 or vegetarian options like the sweet chilli noodles, the menu caters to all tastes.

Weekends are set to get better in Bexley Heath as the Golden Lion lines up the big party weekend with Djs every Friday and Saturday and Sunday night. Other reasons to visit include Tuesday Pool, Wednesday Darts, Thursday Quiz, plus great weekend sport.

Demonstrating the role pubs play in supporting local charities, the Golden Lion is also organising a number of fundraisers for Help the heroes and has previously raised £2,000 for the Orchid Male Cancer Charity.
