A wide choice of the latest in craft beers; super-fast broadband connections; interactive digital entertainment amid a host of student friendly offers are set to transform The Warehouse on Zetland Street as it undergoes a £250,000 refurbishment, creating five new jobs in the process.
Situated opposite the university campus and a stone’s throw from the High Street the pub will also offer a coffee shop style grab and go counter serving tea, coffee and snacks from 8am to eat in or take-away when it reopens on Thursday 1st May.
The pub, which aims to change the face of student pub-going will open as a brighter, lighter contemporary pub offering quality and generosity at every turn. “We listened to our student customers about what they most wanted from their local pub”, said General Manager Lindsay Thornton “and have created what we believe is a new style of pub, perfect for the modern day student.”
Free super-fast broadband will be available making The Warehouse a convenient place to work from and a complimentary WiFi-linked printer will be on hand for printing off last-minute documents. An abundance of plugs and USB connections are fitted to tables for easy phone and computer charging.
The food and drink offer is packed with choice, quality and value. From breakfast to a late night snack, The Warehouse’s new menu has it all covered. The main menu offers brilliant burgers and meaty dogs, loaded with chilli, plus favourites such as mac and cheese or fish and chips. Whilst for those looking for a morning kick start, an afternoon indulgence or the all-important game snacks, there’s bacon sarnies, and generous sharer trays. Super hot sauces for the mighty brave sit alongside more traditional ones to accompany any dish.
A big new change will be the introduction of Britain’s latest drinks trend; craft beer. A choice of five regularly rotating beers will be on tap and customers can try three at once with third pint taster trays or alternatively share a two or three pint flagon with friends. A choice of traditional real ales will be available too. The cocktail menu accommodates every mood and taste, and like the beers, will be available by the glass or as jugs for sharing.
To reward regular customers, the pub will be launching a new loyalty card scheme whereby points for purchases or for just being social, posting about the pub on twitter or logging onto its Facebook page, translates into hard cash to spend in the pub!
The layout of the pub will be geared for eating, drinking, playing, relaxing and working with flexible furniture that can be moved around to accommodate big group seating. There will be areas with large trestle-style tables as well as comfortable armchairs for lounging. A huge mural on the wall gives a nod to Huddersfield’s heritage.
Flexible cinema font lettering gives the team, and its customers, the choice of changing messaging around the pub. Pin boards dotted around the pub and a giant floor to ceiling blackboard highlight latest sports games to be shown across the screens, display the pub’s favourite tweet of the day or invite customers to vote in the poll of the day or pop messages on post-it notes to stick on the walls. The existing dedicated games area will also be refurbished and will be decked out with pool tables and board games – the perfect chill out zone. Giant drop down screens as well as smaller TV screens dotted around the pub mean The Warehouse will be ideal for group sports viewing.
The Warehouse promises to be ahead of the curve too when it comes to digital interaction and has an impressive new feature, ‘Secret DJ’, a brand new interactive jukebox system that allows the customer to digitally select a track from their phone or instantly download a song they’ve just heard.
Speaking of the changes general manager Lindsay Thornton said, “Our customers are busy people living life at a fast pace. By introducing conveniences that make the modern day life simpler we can be that one-stop shop for our customers. Somewhere where they can kick back and relax but also where they know they can print off some research or check emails whilst grabbing a bacon sandwich on the way to college or work.”
“Our ethos is to be generous in everything we do, from the food and drink we serve to the entertainment or facilities we offer. We know our customers won’t settle for anything short of great quality and why should they?”, added Lindsay. “By introducing all the added services and digital features we believe we’ve created a new generation of pub, fit for purpose for today’s student and other like-minded customers”.
Doors will open on Thursday 1st May at 8am. During the day customers will be treated to live acoustic music from Leigh Hitch. Following its launch the pub will be inviting customers to participate in a weekly open mic afternoon from 12pm until 3pm on Thursdays.
Throughout the bank holiday weekend customers to take part in the pub’s special ‘Grab a Grand’ competition. By purchasing a ticket they can win the chance to take the crystal maze ball challenge and scoop £1000. The winner will be announced at 11pm on Sunday 4th May 2014.
The Warehouse will open daily from 8.00am closing at 3.00am Monday to Saturday and at midnight on Sundays.
