Castle Bromwich pub, The Farthings on Green Lane in Birmingham is to open later this week following a £165,000 refurbishment creating five new positions at the pub.
The Farthings, which is owned and operated by award winning pub company Stonegate Pub Company, will celebrate its 10-day makeover with a special Halloween reception for local businesses and regular customers on Thursday 31st October. Guests for the ticket only event will be treated to a complimentary glass of wine or beer and tasters from the pub’s menu on arrival before being entertained by Darren Jai, a Meatloaf tribute act from 9pm.
The following day, Friday 1st November the pub will open to the public from 11am to showcase its new look. Entertainment is planned throughout the weekend starting with a 70s fancy dress party night on Friday, the first of a new regular themed disco night to be held on the first Friday of the month. On Saturday evening the pub will host three-piece acoustic band Elephant River and for those with a curious mind Sunday evening’s psychic night is a must.
Whilst the pub has been undergoing a top to toe refurbishment general manager Sam Skelton and her team have been busy refreshing their training to ensure customer service is perfect when The Farthings reopens. As well as new décor and furniture in the bar and lounge areas the pub’s garden will a new pergola area installed with seating and warm blankets for cooler evenings. The pub will have two extra screens, so that with its three sky boxes customers need never miss their favourite sporting action. An additional cask ale handpump has also been fitted so the pub can serve a choice of two cask ales.
The pub, which recently launched its new menu is expected to increase food sales significantly in the run-up to Christmas. “Our new menu has already had a big impact with customers really taking to it. Some of the changes to it include a new a low calorie meal section which features tasty dishes under 500 calories”, said general manager Sam Skelton. “We’ve also adopted some of the new food trends sweeping the UK including American style choices such as hotdogs as well as giving customers the option of customising their own dishes with a selection of accompaniments and sauces.”

Our regular mid-week entertainment nights will continue including the hugely popular quizzes, our fun fortune quiz on Mondays and sports quiz on a Tuesday, poker night every Wednesday and rock ‘n’ roll bingo on Thursdays,” added Sam.
