The teams at Flares and Reflex are coming together to help raise money for treatment for local lad, Jamie Inglis who has a rare form of childhood cancer.
The two bars, which are owned and operated by the Stonegate Pub Company, are hosting a series of fundraising events, the first of which takes place on Thursday 15th November from 2pm.
Teams from the bars will be running around the city’s bar walls whilst at the same time, asking people to part with their pounds. For those worried that they might not spot the teams, they’ll be easy to identify as they’ll all be dressed up as grannies and granddads.
Samantha Storr, Deputy Manager at Flares on Tanner Row said: “The teams ran the bar walls earlier in the year and raised quite a bit of money for the British Heart Foundation so we thought we’d do the same for Jamie. By dressing up as grannies and granddads we hope to make more of an impact!
“We heard about Jamie’s situation about a month ago and wanted to do something to help him and his family by raising money for the Keep Jamie Smiling appeal. Everyone in and around York knows about Jamie and the treatment he is undergoing, along with the recent news that he has been given the all clear which is just fantastic. However, the family still need to raise money for ongoing treatment and this is where we can help. If you see us on the bar walls then please do drop in any spare change you may have!”
In addition to running the bar walls, both Reflex and Flares will be hosting an evening called “Jamie’s Real Deals” on Thursday 29th November. The bars hope to raise £1000 with items donated by local business which they’ll then auction off to the highest bidder.
Samantha continues: “Already, through selling Children’s Cancer wristbands and donation given generously by our customers, we’ve already managed to raise over £3500 so we’ve significantly beat our target already. The generosity by local businesses and companies has just been amazing and we’re confident that the items donated will create a bidding frenzy. We’ve got a family pass to the Jorvik Centre, gift vouchers from a number of spas including Plushspa and the nailbar Facebar One, a £50 holiday voucher from the Co-op Travel, some beautiful accessories from Yumi, a tour of Old Trafford and a number of signed celebrity pictures as well as signed England team shirt.
“Jamie’s family are delighted that we want to help and we’ll do all we can to raise money for them to ensure that Jamie gets the treatment he needs.”
