PRESS RELEASE

Fulham’s Famous Three Kings is ‘Britain’s Best Sports Pub’ for the Third Time!

The Famous Three Kings in Fulham has won the award for Best Sports Pub in Britain for the third consecutive year, in the John Smith’s Great British Pub Awards. The accolade sees the pub become the UK’s most successful sports pub since the awards began.

Already twice winners of the ‘Best Sports Pub’ category in the John Smith’s Great British Pub Awards in 2016 and 2017, the Famous Three Kings once again beat dozens of worthy entrants to be crowned the Overall Winner, at a prestigious awards ceremony, held in London last night (6th September).

It’s a fantastic achievement for the North End Road pub, owned by Stonegate Pub Company, which is known both nationally and internationally, an ambassador for sporting comradeship, friendly rivalry, and community, airing 49 sports across 22 screens in dozens of languages throughout the year.

Depicted by an array of national flags, the Famous Three Kings has an international following so the pub is as busy for a day of Finnish ice hockey as it is during a Champions League Cup final. It’s also a place where usually under-represented female sports are heavily supported, and where the mould has well and truly been broken on the stereotype of British sports.

Identified on sports channels and in social media across the globe as the place to watch their nation’s teams in London, there couldn’t be a better representative pub for the UK. Local MP Andy Slaughter endorsed its role in a recent visit, also encouraged by the pub’s charitable efforts to support ‘Disability Sports Coach’, helping people with disabilities to participate in sporting activities.

General Manager of the Famous Three Kings, Paul Eastwood, was there on the night to collect the award. He said: “When you’re already the two-time winner of Sports Pub of the Year, you have to do something spectacular to deserve the win for a third time.

“All year, we have asked ourselves ‘what more can we do?’ and we’ve worked hard to ensure that we remain at the top of our game. I am absolutely delighted that the hard work has now paid off and I couldn’t be prouder of my team!”

“We take our role seriously,” added Paul. “We want to continue to be the beacon that the UK needs, uniting of people through a love of sport in a safe environment.”

Chief Executive of Stonegate Pub Company, Simon Longbottom, said: “The Famous Three Kings is a landmark in London for sports viewing, inviting both national and international guests to enjoy their favourite sport, in a lively, fun and safe environment. It is an excellent example of the role pubs play in uniting communities.

“Paul and the team have worked incredibly hard to stand out from the many other pubs which show sport across the country. To win this award once is fantastic, twice is incredible, but three times in a row is an absolutely phenomenal achievement – I couldn’t be prouder of the team.”

The Awards have been running for 18 years and this year more than 1,000 pubs were in the running, across 19 different categories.

Ed Bedington, organiser of the John Smith’s Great British Pub Awards, said: “These awards are the most rigorous of their kind for the pub sector so it’s a real achievement to come out as a category winner. To do so for the third time running though, is outstanding – in fact its a first in the history of the Great British Pub Awards. Huge congratulations to the team at Famous Three Kings!”
