The Green Dragon, on the High Street in Croydon, is planning a month of fundraising activity for Croydon Nightwatch throughout November. Kicking off on Friday 1st November, the pub will be hosting local band ‘Junk Time Party’ from 7pm, as well as launching a raffle, that will be chock-a-block with exciting beer-themed prizes to be won.

The Green Dragon team will be encouraging customers to donate throughout the month, as they aim to support the integral work that Croydon Nightwatch does to combat homelessness in the area. From identifying and offering help to the newly homeless, to supplying essentials, like work boots and textbooks, to those getting back into work, the Nightwatch is there for those vulnerable members of the community, every step of the way.

Chris Fowler, Deputy Manager of The Green Dragon and organiser of the initiative, will also be arranging for him and his team to support the Nightwatch one evening in the work that they do each night at Queen’s Gardens. They will be helping to make and deliver sandwiches and hot drinks to the nightly meeting point, as the temperatures drop, and we move into the coldest months when times are toughest for those living on the streets.

The charity month will finish with a bang on Friday 29th November, when another local band, ‘Joseph and First Aid Kit’, takes to the stage. The popular alternative folk-rock band, who have drawn comparisons to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, includes Green Dragon team member, Tom Finigan, amongst the group, who has gladly offered the bands services for free to support the charity.

Chris said: “What I wanted to achieve from this fundraising initiative was to support a local charity that contributes to our Croydon community, and nothing encompasses that more than the Nightwatch. The team at the charity have been supporting the homeless people in our area for over 40 years now and it is a cause I feel really good about getting behind.

“The team and I are really looking forward to doing our bit to help out, as well as treating our customers to some nights of great music, for a good cause. I really want to thank the members of our two bands, who also moonlight as regulars here at The Green Dragon, for giving up their time to help us in our endeavour.”

The event comes as part of Chris’s participation in Stonegate Pub Company’s ‘Accelerator Programme’. The course is part of its award-winning development programme, designed to give staff the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and proceed within the company.
