Hollie McKenzie, much-loved General Manger at Missoula on West George Street, Glasgow is in the running to win the coveted title of Licensee of the Year in the Scottish License Trade News (SLTN) 2019 awards.
Located in a busy part of Glasgow’s city centre, Hollie has been a central part of the Missoula team for nearly 10 years. Having joined the team at 20 years old as a part-time bar worker whilst studying Civil Engineering at university, Hollie progressed to her current role as General Manager. She has now been the Manager of Missoula for seven years where she oversees a team of 45 staff members.
Missoula is a venue that caters for all age groups. Operating as a nightclub at weekends and a cocktail bar, as well as a pub and restaurant during the week, it provides the perfect place for locals and visitors alike to relax and catch-up with friends, enjoy great food and drinks, or party the night away. Hollie’s loyal team are incredibly proud of their inspiring and motivational manager and believe she thoroughly deserves to win the title of Licensee of the Year.
Sara Doherty, Team Leader at Missoula, commented: “I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a more incredible General Manager than Hollie. She has seen me through four years with the company and continues to take Missoula from strength to strength. She is an inspiration to, not only me, but to everyone that she meets. She truly is the definition of a ‘#GirlBoss’. Words can’t describe how much she means to us!”
Hollie said: “I am honoured and extremely excited to be recognised for this award. I have so much pride and love for this trade and this business, and to be nominated for my hard work is truly fantastic. I hope to develop into an area management role sometime in the next 12-18 months and becoming SLTN’s Licensee of the Year in 2019 would be a major triumph.
I couldn’t be prouder when one of my part-time members of staff tells me they want to join the business full-time and to develop a career in the pub trade. That I’m here and able to inspire, motivate and support them is truly humbling.
I would like to thank Stonegate for believing in and encouraging me, and my amazing team for their constant support and hard work. Without this incredible support system behind me, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. I encourage everyone around me to keep pushing themselves, always be willing to learn new skills, to share their knowledge and be proud to work in the licensed trade.”
The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony taking place at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel on Thursday 7 November.
