The historic Gosforth Hotel has added another £300,000 reason to make the town one of the best in the UK* for high flyers to live.
The Grade II listed, High Street building has been transformed into an urban craft bar whilst affirming pride in its accolade of ‘firsts’. The inspiring first-floor function room renamed ‘Sumner Suite’ pays homage to the place where Sting made his debut and played in the pubs resident band, whilst ‘Viz’ messages adorn the walls, denotes the famous comic’s first distribution centre.
With a contemporary twist, customers can also expect an industrialised, stripped back décor complete with neon lit bar, quirky furniture, street food, and crafted drinks from beers to a spirits emporium. Even the outdoors has gone upmarket with the a new patio area ready to seat forty in the summer sunshine.
The big launch Friday 30thJune offers a preview of the premium menu against a backdrop of acoustics by Lauren Amore, the start of a renewed love of music for the landmark bar. Newcastle Falcons rugby players Scott Lawson and Ally Hogg are due to pour the first pints for customers at 5pm.
Sport remains a focal point with two big screens and eight HD plasma screens showing Sky and BT sport, whilst table service during big games adds to the quality offer.
“Gosforth is ready for a bit of vogue. We’re flexing to the demand for a stylish bar that transitions socially day to night from chilled en mode breakfasts to post-work cocktails and late night social weekends,” said manager Paul Robson.
Introducing craft alternatives, Wylam brewery and from the shores of the Tyne, Twoby Two beers join local cask ales from Anarchy and Mordue breweries. Old Rosie’s cider is also on draft with fruity flavours offering great summer refreshment. Premium spirits, seven deadly botanical gins and an array of cocktails from ‘Caramel Old Fashioned’ to ‘Pornstar Martini line the bar.
Artisan pizza and gourmet burger lovers won’t be disappointed, and with endless tapas dishes including mozzarella truffle bon bons, fried calamari sticks, and beef and horseradish bites, food just became a right social occasion. Breakfast hasn’t missed the trend either with Guacamole On Focaccia with Poached Egg alongside traditional Full English daily from 10am.
Entertainment ranges from Vinyl nights on Wednesday and Sundays to quiz night on Thursdays with live acoustic music every Friday night thrown in for good measure. ‘The Sumner suite’ is available for function hire so if you want to party in the ‘Fields of gold’ enquire at the bar, don’t send a message in a bottle.
