Under the arches, there’s a Cheshire Cheese grin being put on the traditional Great London pub scene as the capital descends on its best-kept secret after a £250,000 refurbishment.
Multi-cultural and adding the biggest focus on sport the city has seen since the Olympics, the Cheshire Cheese pub by Tower Hill has added opulence over its two majestic floors creating a home for live sports from premier league to darts on the oche in a style that makes it just as trendy to take in with Prosecco or a pint of craft beer. There’s even pool and darts for the more participating fans.
Locals (yes a pub in the heart of the city with an avid following) have been naming the new first floor bar whilst the pub has been polished. Manager Carmel Daly Fletcher said: “We made a few suggestions to make sure it kept a London sports theme – double decker, top level, sports lounge – but the big reveal and customer choice will be at out launch event on Thursday 26th October.”
In true London style, the city’s music scene will get the event off to a flying start as a local band set the backdrop for craft beer and menu tasters tempting tourists, commuters, sports groups, socialites and office workers alike. Spanish football will get the first airing of the HD screens, viewable from any spot in the pub with Real Sociedad and Real Madrid kicking the sports appeal off.
Blue Moon and Brewdog Punk IPA, three local and national favourite cask beers, seven lagers, a range of ten gin botanicals and easy to drink cocktails offer the range of drinks typical of a traditional pub of today.
Name a proper pub’s most likely sellers and it’s guaranteed to be on the menu alongside a little bit of hip. Two meals from £11.49 such as Fish & Chips and Beef & Ale Pie all day every day, burgers from Classic Beef to Three-way Chicken, Grills and Build-your-own Planks for the ultimate socialites are all on offer. Blending two classics, the Pizza Pie is just as good as it sounds – favourite pizza toppings, oozing mozzarella and cheddar cheese encased in a dough pastry; and there’s calorie counter meals for the more health conscious!
It’s a vibe of welcome and unpretentious, yet traditional with chic from sports table service, meaning no score is ever missed, to the unlimited planned occasions where LGBT might meet world class darts. The kind of pub Londoners and visitors love to stumble across the Cheshire Cheese is raising the bar on bars in the Tower Hill and Crutched Friars area of the city.
