The Griffin Hotel in Selby has received a £75,000 renovation ensuring its still top choice for Selby’s party nights and sports socials whilst keeping up with the trends of modern pub goers – adding real ale to its line up.
The 1870’s coaching inn is improving its traditional features with brand new décor, cask ales, uninterrupted sports viewing and a garden makeover that renders it virtually unrecognisable – so lets just say Selby’s in for a treat.
“We are giving the pub the sparkle it needs to maintain our reputation for best sports in the area, whilst expanding our capacity in the garden so our customers can enjoy the surroundings whatever the weather” said General Manager Stephen Whitehead.
The launch night took place on the 5thAugust with a ‘while stocks last’ cask ale tasting session where regulars decided which hand pulls were their favourite – joining the cask ale revolution.
A carnival theme descends on the pub this weekend 12th August showing all its glory with colourful decorations, games and a one night only outside bar taking the party to the street.
The newly refurbished garden is perfect for all weather socialising with new benches, additional seating, atmospheric lighting and ample space to relax all year round. Yet, the real star of the show is the pergola embedded with a TV satisfying sporting fans, confirming it’s Selby’s hidden gem.
Sport remains a focal point in-bar with two large screens and five HD TVs showing Sky and BT sport whilst offering table service during big games so you’ll never miss a score.
New to the cask ale phenomenon Stephen is keen to use this year to experiment with different brews depending on his customer’s tastes. Open to any requests and suggestions there will be a mix of local and national ales across three pumps with 10% discount for CAMRA members. The first line up features Wainwright, Ringwood Razer Back and Witchwood Hobgoblin.
“I am really looking forward to tapping into cask ale, there’s so many variations to try and I am keen to meet with local brewers to see what they have to offer too” added Stephen.
The legendary unicorn prosecco perfect for Hen’s and birthdays will be back on the menu alongside party bowls such as Tutti Fruiti and Mali Woo making the already lively weekends that bit sweeter.
There’s a reason to visit every night of the week with a line up of Tuesday night free pool, Wednesday night Quiz night with Stephen taking on the role of quiz master, Thursday night Karaoke, Friday night a variety of entertainment ranging from charity casino night to northern soul discos and Saturday night party with a DJ.
