It’s a dream come true for the new operator of The New Inn in Keynsham as she is now running what was her local pub for over 30 years.

When the pub became available, Jemma Lewis gave up her successful sales career to pick up the keys at the Bath Hill pub and she is delighted to welcome people back through the doors following its recent refurbishment.

This summer heralds a new chapter for the popular neighbourhood pub with its new look and Jemma and her team at the bar. The latest works have really opened the pub up and it is a great time to make the most of the lovely beer garden and decked area. The New Inn is a great home for pub sport with TV sports, pool and darts. It is also Casque Marque Approved so customers are guaranteed a quality pint.

Jemma said: “It is so exciting to be running what was my local for so many years. I went to school here, have been in the area for over 30 years and I have been friends with the previous landlords for over 20 years. I always wanted to get my hands on The New Inn so when this opportunity came up it gave me a chance to follow my dreams and go for it.”

Jemma had built a successful career in sales and management for national foodservice companies and for some years ran hotels and bars in France before taking over at The New Inn, an opportunity she just did not want to miss out on.

Jemma added: “It’s been my local for so many years and it is great to be here now. Many may say they don’t know this but I ran hotels and bars in France, actually a lot of people may have heard me say this!”

The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested over £199,000 in The New Inn during its recent refurbishment so the Keynsham community can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood pub for years to come.

The two bars have been opened up to give the pub a more spacious feel but at the same time cleverly balancing the sports area and the seating spaces. A pool table and dartboard have been added to provide some in-house sports alongside the live BT Sport and Sky Sports TV action.

The New Inn guests can enjoy a more relaxed and comfortable visit thanks to the makeover. Overall, there is a warmer feel and by removing a partition wall the atmosphere and ambiance flows through. Attention to detail means no area has been overlooked and the toilets have been given a high-quality refurb too. Outside there is ample parking, a lovely beer garden and decking with views over the park. The pub is dog-friendly so ideal for stopping off for a drink when people are walking their pets.

Drinks menus have been refreshed and extended to ensure there is something for everyone. There is a rolling choice of guest ales, a cocktail menu plus an extensive range of local, national and international beers, wines, spirits, no and low alcohol drinks and soft drinks.

Jemma added: “What I love about this pub, and always have, is that is has a warm and friendly feel to it. It is such a community pub. It’s so exciting to be running my local! The new look really is amazing. It’s kept all its charm but now has all those added comforts which pubs need today.

“I am so lucky to have this pub. Come in and see us. You’ll love it. It’s full of character and full of characters and you can enjoy a great drink, entertainment and fantastic service from all of my team.”
