Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith took time out to visit the newly refurbished Slug and Lettuce at South Woodford last week to see behind the scenes of the £310,000 investment that launched at the end of April.
The extensive renovation was designed to create the go-to place for those looking for an evening of ‘Getting Together’, class and sophistication with its minimal yet elegant décor and light, bright colour scheme, menus for every palette and vast range of beers, wines, and cocktails from indulgent Baileys Iced Latte to the Giant Pornstar Martini.
The local MP was introduced to two of owner Stonegate Pub Company’s long-standing employees who have grown into the general and deputy manager roles, highlighting the important role pubs and bars play in careers and development, community and local economy.
Mr Duncan-Smith commented: “The refurbishment now offers great opportunity to attract customers at all times of the day. It was enlightening to hear Ciara and Ryan’s stories – Ciara who after nine years of development has won the accolade of being Stonegate’s southern manager of the year whilst Ryan, four years into his journey, has progressed to deputy manager. Its attitudes to learning, and investment like this that creates real career opportunities in the UK. ”
General manager Ciara Neville said: “It was great to meet with Iain to show how Slug & Lettuce South Woodford has changed to be an all day amenity and to have our contribution in the local community recognised.”
Area Manager Lee Wilson was on hand to give Mr Duncan-Smith the guided tour: “We appreciate Iain visiting Slug & Lettuce South Woodford to see the renovation and to meet the local team. This investment forms part of our annual £50 Million spend developing our pubs across the country providing enhanced community facilities, creating jobs and careers for people of all ages. Hospitality is an important business sector generating significant income for government and we are pleased that our local MP recognises the importance of British pubs and bars.”
