Canterbury’s destination pub, The Penny Theatre, has received a generous £300,000 investment in its future, that sees the creation of fifteen new jobs.
This historic building, once a theatre and music hall, has undergone a complete transformation with a new heated, outdoor area and an enhanced interior, showcasing graffiti art, historic paintings of Canterbury and an iconic ‘Instagrammable corridor.’
The Penny Theatre has now reopened and is the go-to destination for craft ales from across Kent and Essex. ‘Mangolicious,’ a best seller locally, will also stay firmly on the menu.
It’s not all about Craft ales at the Penny Theatre, with two-for-one cocktails offered every day of the week, and a delicious range of menus that cater for every taste and appetite – from a quick bite to a juicy stacked burger, to an infamous bottomless brunch.
A familiar face remains behind the bar. Michael Perkins is retaining his star role as General Manager. He commented: “The Penny Theatre is a truly one-of-a-kind pub. You won’t find anything else like it. I cannot wait to welcome both locals and tourists for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat.”
A premiere local venue for watching sports in high definition, The Penny Theatre also has a stellar live music line up every Friday and Saturday night. Wednesday ‘Society Nights’ and Tuesday’s Drag Bingo sit alongside regulars’ favourites such as the Sunday and Monday quiz and tribute acts.
Michael continued: “A visit to The Penny Theatre has become an unmissable part of any visit to the area. Our entertainment offer is second to none and I cannot wait to plan more fun activities for our local community. We also have a long-standing relationship with The Children’s Trust, which supports children with brain injuries. I am looking forward to continuing the Penny Theatre’s tradition of charity work and partnering with the local community.”
