It’s that time of year again, when the Stapylton Arms, in Eston, hosts its annual Party in the Car Park, taking place on Saturday 30th June.
The event is amazingly in its 17th year, and all came about when the local residents of Eston were unable to get their hands on tickets for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s own car park party in 2001. Not wanting the people of Eston to miss out, Managers Susan Moore and Shaun King, set up their own event, rife with local entertainment and which raised money for local charities at the same time.
Entrance is £1 and the Stapylton Arms will be open from 12pm on the day, with the party running from 2pm – 6pm. Visitors can enjoy a number of games and stalls run by local residents, as well as a BBQ put on by the pub and entertainment provided by local band, the Beer Pigs – with all proceeds made on the day donated to charity.
Susan Moore, who has run the pub with her partner, Shaun, for the last 24 years, said: “I can’t believe our Party in the Car Park is still going after all these years! It only started because the community was disappointed they could not attend the Queen’s event, and now 17 years later, we’re getting bigger every year.
“Since our event began, we have supported the Chernobyl Children’s Project, amongst other charities. Every year we raise enough money to support at least two children’s visit to the UK, as part of the charity’s host family initiative, funding their flights and stay here – and we are very proud of that.”
The Chernobyl Children’s Project is a charity that supports children and families in Belarus, who have been affected by the Chernobyl disaster. They provide restorative holidays to the UK for children, where they can visit the dentist, have their eyes tested, as well as other healthcare necessities they might not have access to at home.
