MP for Hornchurch and Upminster, Julia Lopez has recently visited The Fatling, Hornchurch after its £400,000 refurbishment by Stonegate Group earlier this year.
Sandy Castle, General Manager of The Fatling was on hand to welcome Ms Lopez as well as give her a tour of the pubs new look, and even got her behind the bar pulling a few pints. Sandy said: “It was great for Julia to come and visit us, the team and I were so pleased to be able to show off our refurbished pub.”
During the visit, Sandy was able to talk to Julia about The Fatling’s community involvement, and all the great things they do to bring everyone together, including live music nights with local artists, screening of live sports and supporting local causes such as school Christmas Fayres. Sandy continued: “The local community is a big part of our incredible pub, and we want to be able to support and provide a welcoming space for all. Our amazing customers do so much for us, so it is great to be able to give back to them.”
Julia Lopez MP said: “I really enjoyed my visit to The Fatling to meet Sandy and her pub team and see their refurbishment. The new outdoor area and canopy comes just in time for the winter, the World Cup and Christmas celebrations. We talked about the work Sandy does with the Hornchurch Town Team and Pub Watch on community safety and events. We also caught up on my recent Jobs Fair at Queen’s Theatre and I was particularly pleased to learn of the flexibility Sandy gives staff on working hours so that team members with a variety of commitments – study, family life, other jobs – can get shifts that suit their needs. She has built a great team and it was great to see investment into a thriving local business in Hornchurch.”
Sandy concluded: “Our investment has really allowed the team and I to provide a great, traditional community pub, for guests who wants a space to relax and spend time with friends and family. All of us at The Fatling love the pubs new features, and everyone that visits us always give compliments.”
