Keith’s done it AGAIN! Gold Best Bar None Awards for Three Weymouth Pubs
Keith Treggiden, Manager of Slug and Lettuce, Rendezvous and the Royal Oak, on St Thomas St in Weymouth, has picked up a clean sweep for the fourth year running – winning Gold for each of the three sites he manages in the regional Best Bar None Awards.
Keith picked up the accolades from Best Bar None National Coordinator, Mick MacDonnell, at the Weymouth Awards Ceremony held at Vaughan’s Bistro earlier this month.
The Home Office backed scheme, which has been running for more than 15 years, works with the alcohol industry, police and local authorities to promote responsible alcohol consumption and higher professional licensing standards in pubs, bars and clubs.
By working to reduce crime and disorder, Best Bar None helps to create a safer and more responsible alcohol related leisure environment that encourages people of all ages to socialise. Premises are audited by trained assessors for operational standards, policies and procedures, as well as the education and training of staff.
After more than 30 years in the trade, Keith knows the importance of social responsibility, especially when it comes to the hospitality industry, so much so, he has chaired his local Pubwatch for the last 14 years and Best Bar None for the last year. Roles which see him coordinating all the venues in the area, guiding his fellow licensees through their own assessments and accreditations and attending workshops to keep him and the community up to date with the relevant changes in legislation.
“I am so proud of my team!” said Keith. “They work incredibly hard throughout the year, so for their work to be recognised by Best Bar None, is just great. I’m looking forward to another year of doing our bit to keeping alcohol related crime and disorder in the area, at an all-time low.”
Jonathan Seed, Area Manager, said, “I call Keith ‘Mr. Weymouth’ – he’s that dedicated to the town, its entertainment industry and keeping the social buzz alive. Not only does he manage three venues in the town, but he manages them exceptionally well. It’s a real pleasure going into his pubs and seeing everyone having a great time, and having it safely – the customers know it, the staff know it, and it’s all down the amazing work Keith does, on a daily basis.”
As testament to Keith’s contribution to the community, Local MP Richard Drax, who visited the Slug and Lettuce earlier this month, said, “Clearly, anyone who supports the town and its residents in the way that you do, is to be supported and encouraged – thank you for all that you do.”
Keith has managed the Rendezvous and Royal Oak, which is now operated by Stonegate Pub Company, for the last 14 years and took over responsibility for the Slug and Lettuce in 2016. Under his guidance, the three venues have achieved the gold award every year, since Best Bar None was established in Weymouth.
