The 19th century King’s Head in Horley is undergoing a £320,000 renovation to transform the corner pub into a classic inn appealing to families with chef-inspired pub food, a premium range of beers, wines and spirits and a feature garden seating 150 customers.

Explaining the change, manager Peter McLaughlin said: “Horley has evolved over the last few years, and with more homes being built, there’s continuing diversity.

“In addition customers reasons for visiting the pub are changing all the time, and from day to day so we (pubs) can all be different. With the King’s Head’s land, size and location, a relaxing family friendly destination with great food and drink is the perfect choice whilst filling a gap in the Horley pub market.”

Peter, with his thirty-five years in the business is no stranger to the new style and with it, a huge focus on service. “We’ve taken on new chefs and grown the team by seven giving them all extensive training so customers can expect gins expertly garnished, craft beer perfectly served, and table service with a smile.”

With the entire pub stripped out, it’s new floors, carpets, furniture seating 170, décor, even little girls and boys’ rooms. Expect a mix of fabrics, quaint decoration, warming colours and relaxed seating. An oasis has been created in the vast garden with an additional 150 seats and a huge pergola structure with heating, and soft seating.

The grand opening is on 13th April when glasses of fizz, canapés, craft beer tasting, and a music duo will welcome all customers old and new

Seven new draft beers have created a range including Amstel, Estrella, Peroni, craft and cask beers Meantime London IPA, Samuel Adams, London Pride, Aspalls, and Rekordling cider. Sipsmith’s Sloe Gin to the alluring pink Warner Edwards Victoria’s Rhubarb Gin, the gin range also definitely meets the most current drinks trends.

The diverse menu is perfect for lunches from £5, to loyal favourites guest-ale-battered cod & chips, sausages and mash, and Sunday roasts with free top ups of roasties, Yorkies and gravy.

Pub fare with a chef’s edge includes Chicken & Brie Pie, and 35 day matured Rump or Ribeye topped with portobello mushroom or pepper sauce. There are also more unusual dishes – Pear & Pecorino Pasta, Sea Bream En Papilotte – and weekly chef specials including dishes such as rack of lamb and quinoa chilli.

Desserts to make any meal memorable include Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Blackcurrant & Sloe Gin Meringue – or a mix of four mini puds at £4.99 – big enough to share, or not!

“We are so excited to have the opportunity to bring the new Kings Head to Horley. It’s got charm, charisma, and a new personality that is going to be well received,” added Peter.
