Licensees of The Bay Horse, Heywood are celebrating a quarter-centenary at the pub this week.
Susan and Michael Smith (Sue and Mick) are Business Partners of The Bay Horse pub in Heywood and are celebrating 25 years on the 12th December. The couple started their journey holding a number of other pubs, where they were then offered the opportunity to run The Bay Horse in Heywood. Mick grew up in Heywood, which was a factor contributing to the couple’s decision of taking the opportunity, as well as hearing numerous positive comments about the pub.
The Bay Horse pub is the heart of the local community, and Sue and Mick are loved by all their locals. Their time at the pub has seen many of their beloved locals come and go and Sue and Mick have been able to develop a close relationship with them all. They also have a picture up at the pub of them and some of the locals.
Mick said: “It has been an amazing 25 years at The Bay Horse, there’s been a lot that has happened over the years but the thing we love most is the locals. Both Sue and I have been able to create amazing friendships, they are just like family. We have had locals who rely upon us, in which we are always happy to support them as they always support us. The Bay Horse means a lot to both of us. A highlight for me over the 25 years has to be the large football presence we have here as well as being the official United Supporters pub.”
Sue said: “The past 25 years have flown by, and we don’t know what we would do without the pub and the support from the local community. We are excited to see what the future brings and are so proud to have reached a remarkable milestone in our lives and careers.”
Nick Light, Managing Director of Stonegate Group Pub Partners, said: “Congratulations to Sue and Mick for an amazing achievement of 25 years as licensees of this fantastic pub. It has been a privilege working with them and watching their business go from strength to strength. We are very thankful for all of their efforts and continue to wish them every success for the next 25 years.”
