The Stump and Candle, Boston has created a photo wall in the pub with over 100 images, showcasing the pub regulars that attended its’ New Year’s Eve Masquerade Party.

Operator of The Stump and Candle, Sharon Swift and her partner John Smith hosted a Masquerade Party for New Year’s Eve 2021, personally inviting all their pub regulars to a night of fun and to see in the new year with them. Sharon and John invited 90 of their regular customers to the Masquerade Party, where they set up a disco with John as DJ with his own equipment, put on a buffet for the guests, and made a photo booth with a backdrop and balloon arches. Operator Sharon says: “The party was so much fun and was a really good night. Everyone that attended made such an effort and it was lovely to see everyone wearing their smart attire and fancy masks.”

The idea for the Masquerade Party came from an event previously held at the pub two years ago, which was a Hollywood Red Carpet Party, organised similarly to the Masquerade Party, being invite only. Sharon continued: “Everyone who attended the Hollywood Red Carpet event thoroughly enjoyed themselves, which made us want to do something like this again”.

On the night, Sharon and her team ensured everybody in attendance had their photograph taken, which is now being used in the photo wall. Over 100 photos from the night are being displayed in a photo wall in the pub. Sharon wanted to create this feature in the pub to show her appreciation to her regular pub goers and allow new visitors of the pub to see what they can look forward to.

The pub, which is part of the multi award winning Craft Union Pub Company, is heavily involved with the local community, wanting to make the pub a space where individuals can come and have as much fun as possible through various events that are hosted throughout the year. The Stump and Candle’s involvement with the local community also includes recently working with a local hospice, hosting a Burns Night event at the pub, with entertainment organised by Sharon and John, raffle, and an array of Scottish food.

Sharon finished: “I wanted to do something that shows all our lovely locals what they mean to all of us at the pub. The photo wall not only shows memories of our New Year’s Eve party but that we are a community pub. We also want to get more people involved with the pub and we hope that the photo wall can convey the fun we have here to new customers. Myself, John and the team also want to do more fundraising initiatives at the pub for local charities and causes, to try and give back to the community. An upcoming initiative is Burns Night, which we have never hosted before, we have also worked closely with the local hospice to put together this night.”

Sharon, John and the team at The Stump and Candle are already planning their 2022 New Year’s Eve party, so look out for more information nearer the time. They will also be continuing to support more local charities and causes, with further fundraising initiatives.
