The Golden Lion, on the High Street in Newcastle Under Lyme, is gearing up for a Bank Holiday Weekend to remember in aid of Children with Cancer UK. After raising money for the charity throughout August, the pub will be putting on a weekend of live music and fundraisers to help bolster funds.

Kicking off from 8.30pm on Friday with five-piece Blues and R’n’B band, Jane and the Hurricanes, the Golden Lion has organised activity across the weekend, including Guess the Teddy, Charity Bingo and a Bake Sale, featuring home-baked delights from the Golden Lion team. Saturday will see Mystic Rock band, Friends of Merlin take to the stage, with their original songs influenced by 1960’s psychedelic love and peace, from 8.30pm, before Sunday welcomes Lydia Eliza, with her own brand of Pop, Rock and Motown covers, from 7.30pm. The weekend will finish off with a £100 cash jackpot draw for one lucky winner to take home.

Anthony Hughes, General Manager of the Golden Lion and organiser of the event, said: “We’re really excited to have three great acts performing for us across the weekend. They all have very original and very different sounds from one another, so we’re really covering all the genres over the Bank Holiday. And it’s all for a good cause!

“Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer, funding vital research that will hopefully mean that one day, every child will survive cancer. It does such important work and every little bit that we can raise for the charity means we are doing our bit for children in the future who are struck with the disease. Our customers are very generous and all up for a good time, so fingers crossed, we can make a real difference this weekend!”

The event comes as part of Anthony’s participation in Stonegate Pub Company’s ‘Accelerator Programme’. The course is part of its award-winning development programme, designed to give staff the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and proceed within the company.
