The Red Lion in Coleshill welcomed North Warwickshire MP Craig Tracey last week for a tour of its recently refurbished premises following a six-figure investment from Craft Union Pub Company.
John Opolli, Operator of The Red Lion, led the tour of the pub and talked Craig through the investment of the space, as well as how the pub has been getting the community engaged through its new entertainment and sports offering and the charity work that has been at the forefront of their focus in recent months.
John also took the opportunity to get MP Craig’s thoughts on the local-level challenges the pub has been facing such as policing levels, the need for a local pub watch, the rise in minimum wage and general business rates that are affecting all Operators. Drawing on his expertise in these matters, Craig assured John that fighting for a reduction in employers’ national insurance contributions to counteract the national wage rises that are coming into effect is one of his priorities heading into 2024.
John along with business partner Grace became Operators of the pub when The Red Lion Coleshill re-opened its doors back in April with its fresh new look. They led the investment of the site which included the opening of a stunning beer garden, which has become a firm favourite with local residents and passer-by’s alike.
During the refurbishment, the pub benefitted from new seating, a re-fitted outdoor bar and newly installed BT and Sky Sports to attract local sports enthusiasts to the venue. The pub has also been proudly promoting its refreshed activity agenda which includes poker games, a darts league, live music events and a charity quiz.
Operator John commented on the visit: “It was fantastic to meet Craig and show him around our pub and discuss the issues we’ve been facing. Craig’s assurance that these issues are being taken seriously has been hugely reassuring and we were so pleased he was impressed with the new look of the pub. We hope to welcome him back soon!”
