Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan took time out to visit brand new bar The Liquorist at Gunwharf Quays on Friday (13th April) to see behind the scenes of the half million pound investment that launched last month.
The stylish new bar is a combination of cocktails, sport, artisan pizza and burgers, breathing energy and excitement into the town’s day and nightlife scene. The versatile concept, has lots of modern features from a Rum Roulette wheel helping customers spin a selection of rums and mixers to create a bespoke drink, to a “Liq or Twist” app where guests can “twist” to find their favourite cocktail tipple.
The local MP was introduced to the front and back of house team, learning of Stonegate’s apprenticeships and careers in management that highlighted the important role pubs and bars play in community and local economy.
Mr Morgan commented: “Liquorist is a great asset to Gunwharf Quays and it was great to hear of Stonegate’s people development programme and ‘bar to boardroom’ ethos which has evidently helped thousands of people. Well run bars are great for Portsmouth’s economy, creating jobs and helping our city be an international destination. I was also impressed with how the bar’s staff are giving back to our community through charitable giving.”
Bar manager Dale Clark said: “It’s been exciting to bring The Liquorist, a bar taking inspiration from big cities, to Portsmouth. We’re all about a having a great time but there is a serious side to the business and with people at the heart of that, it was good to be able to discuss with our MP and have recognised our contribution in the local community.”
Area Manager James Beaumont was on hand to give Mr Morgan the guided tour: “We appreciate Stephen visiting The Liquorist to see the renovation and to meet the local team. This investment forms part of our annual £50 Million spend developing our pubs across the country providing enhanced community facilities, creating jobs and careers for people of all ages. Hospitality is an important business sector generating significant income for government and we are pleased that our local MP recognises the importance of British pubs and bars.”
