Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport recently visited Walkabout in Plymouth following the completion of a significant £500,000 investment in the site.
The half million-pound investment has transformed this hugely popular bar in Plymouth into a prime daytime venue and a late-night clubbing hotspot. The investment also saw the creation of 15 new jobs. During his visit Luke met Deputy Manager Richard Thornley and Nicola Carrol who are forging their career within the company.
Luke said: “I had a fantastic visit to Walkabout and was really impressed when hearing about the investment which Stonegate has put into this venue and also into its people. Their award-winning bar to boardroom training programme has seen many young people progress their careers and it was inspiring to see young people in our city developing their career.”
I have spent many happy evenings in Walkabout. The improvements and investment will really help this venue retain its status as one of Plymouth’s premier nights out and that means more jobs for people in Plymouth. I was also really impressed at how much the Walkabout team have embraced the Purple Flag initiative to keep people safe on a night out. Everyone should be able to have a good night out and feel safe and hearing about the extra mile staff go was really positive.”
“As well as running an excellent venue the team have also raised over £2,500 for local charities especially for the Dash of Silver, a charity that focuses on raising funds and awareness of testicular cancer.
“Every man should check themselves regularly to check for testicular cancer but sometimes talking about testicular cancer is a taboo subject with blokes. I’m really glad that this stigma is being challenged by Walkabout and that the team have raised over £2,500 through various activities, most nobly by donating their own tips to the cause. “
