A Wednesfield pub is being renamed ‘The Lancaster’ in commemoration of the local 1945 plane crash following a £120,000 renovation that sees the local restored at the heart of the community.

Wednesfield Historical Society, Reverend NickWatson will join locals on Friday 23rdJune to celebrate the fresh new look whilst paying tribute to the seven servicemen killed in the crash, nine days after VE day.

New manager Denise Green said: “The renaming pays homage to the historic crash but more than just a name, it symbolises how the pub will have greater links to the local community.”

Instilling the traditions of a proper pub, there is an increased focus on sport, cask ale and food. As well as enhanced viewing of Sky and BT Sports through HD screens, it will be a community affair with pool, darts and dominoes teams and Wednesday night Red Tooth Poker.

Cask ale is a key feature with extra hand pulls rotating a special range of brews intended for cask ale lovers, with collector cards offering added incentive to try new beers. Dark Fruits Cider, Heineken Cold, and seven deadly gins also extend the drinks menu.

With a real wow factor, the aptly named ‘King’s Feast’ menu boasts five ‘man vs food’ mega meals including the ‘King’s Feast Challenge Burger’ – not for the faint-hearted, four 6oz beef burgers, cheese and bacon, a breaded chicken schnitzel and pulled chicken and chorizo, served with 10 onion rings, double chips, garlic bread and a smoky mayonnaise sauce!

With over 100 combinations of dishes down to under 600 calories options, kids meals, newly introduced range of breakfasts from 10am, and of course the Sunday roast, there really is something for everyone including eleven all day value deals such as two meals for £8.99.

“We’re turning the Lancaster into a pub locals can be proud of,” added Denise. “From the outside in it’s going to look entirely different, and a great environment to socialise in.”

Other reasons to visit include Tuesday quiz night, Friday throwback party DJ, Saturday night live entertainment every month, and Sunday night Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo.
