The Fox and Hounds in Putney has joined in the latest pub revolution to transport bars back into being for the whole community with a £265,000 investment, which reopened on Friday (7thJuly).
The Victorian pub opposite Putney station has been transformed to a modern, lighter and brighter pub cleverly transitioning from day to night – and its not just new air-conditioning setting the temperature. Sophisticated audio and lighting sets the perfect environment for pub lunches, cocktail sipping (241 all day every day), party weekends or sports viewing, making for a pub that bit less ordinary.
The launch weekend epitomised everything the pub promises to be with karaoke, live band ‘The Covered’ playing party floor fillers, and re-launch of the popular quiz with Mark Labatt of ‘The Chase’ fame helping lucky teams.
VIPs joined Mayor Jim Maddan on Tuesday 11thJuly for samples of fizz, new craft beers Brewdog and Blue Moon IPA, local cask ales from Wimbledon and Twickenham breweries, and canapés of the proper pub food menu.
Sports fans can get excited with all nine TVS going HD, big screen, and pre-bookable private booths with TVs. Putney Magpies, Australian football league players who the pub sponsor, have literally become part of the fixtures and fittings with a special wallpaper encapsulating the team logo. Local ladies and men’s football have also been sponsored and manager Colin Woods says there’s always room for more.
“As soon as loyal customers see the transformation, they’re going to be wowed and new customers are going to be really surprised how we’ve changed.
“Even the garden that’s been astro-turfed with extra seating looks fantastic with it’s festoon lighting and new feature which I’m not giving away too much on, but transports onlookers to a stadium without the need to be there,” added Colin.
The food includes favourites like Fish & Chips and Chicken Dinner Pie alongside Pasta, Salads & Noodles, with the ultimate Sunday roast. With over 100 combinations of dishes and daily deals such as two meals for £8.99 every day, 5-dish ‘Build your Own Sharing Planks’ £5.99 Saturdays, and Burger & Drink for £7.29, it’s definitely geared to every day dining.
Supporting community causes, the pub is raising money for Noah’s Ark charity, providing ‘hospice at home’ care for children as well as supporting local sports, and has employed an extra ten people to the team.
Other reasons to visit include Monday free Pool; Friday Night Party karaoke; Saturday Night Disco and Sunday Pub Quiz.
