A vibrant, current and quirky new bar is coming to Colchester this month, when the former Molloy’s on North Hill reopens as The Centurion on Wednesday 25th April, following a £250,000 transformation.
Aimed at students and young professionals, the innovative interior will inspire creativity with wall-to-wall murals, state-of-the-art mood lighting and designated workspaces with Wi-Fi hotspots and charging points throughout.
Opening with a bang, local singer songwriter Barney Holmes and Indie rock band, Vera Lones, will kick-start the show on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th April, to be followed by a line up of other up-and-coming Essex talent.
There will be a craft beer event to follow the big opening night, spanning from 1st May to 7th May, it promises a wide selection of beer to choose from.
Sports fans will be catered for with Sky and BT Sports showing everything from the 2018 FIFA World Cup coverage through to World Wrestling Entertainment and National Football League. Plus there’s speed quizzing, retro gaming and defeating the ‘Hot Wing Challenge’, all of which can earn you a place in the Hall of Fame.
An eleven strong craft beer and cider wall features Hop House 13, Brewdog Punk IPA and Lilley’s ciders, three cask ales include brews from the Mighty Oak and Adnams breweries, and there’s a selection of niche craft beers, lagers and stouts.
Tin can cocktails are served in vintage themed cans available in single or giant sizes for sharing. For those with a sweet tooth, ‘Freak-shakes’ are available, a mouth-watering mash-up of drink and dessert featuring cake, cream, Nutella, marshmallows and candyfloss.
“We wanted to create a fun, interactive atmosphere,” said general manager, Daniel Davis. “We have a major focus on sports and can now boast the best place in Colchester for live sports viewing, but we also offer something for everyone, with food, drink and entertainment on offer all day, every day. The first week of opening offers 50% off drinks, and then there will be 50% off food the following week.”
Open daily from 8am, when hot breakfast, grab ‘n’ go pastries and coffee are on offer, a variety of grazing and sharing options, including vegan, vegetarian and healthier dishes, are served throughout the day to keep customers fuelled up.
Regular visitors are rewarded for their custom with the MORE loyalty card, earning them points so they can save money on food and drink. Plus there are different offers on every day:
- Monday Double Points – earn 20 points for every £1 on the MORE card with retro gaming
- Tuesday Clash of the Cans and 25p Churros
- Wednesday – Hot Wing Challenge and wings at a flappingly good 25p each
