Well-loved pub, The Crusader in Garforth has reopened its doors following a £346,000 investment by Craft Union Pub Company. which was named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards.
Since the pub closed its doors, major works have been carried out to give it a fresh look and feel. New furniture and fittings have been installed as well as several HD TVs for screening Sky Sports and BT Sports. To add to the Crusader’s sports offering, a new pool table and darts board have also been fitted.
Outside, the beer garden has had some changes made to it too during the investment, preparing it for the upcoming spring and summer months. The Crusader’s beer garden will be the perfect setting to enjoy a beer alfresco as it is a true sun trap.
At the helm of the Crusader are operators Stacey Greenall and Matthew Endeacott, who are making the pub a family affair with the whole family unit being involved in the business. Stacey has been working in pubs for 15 years, previously managing a similar pub in Scholes. Alongside this, she has worked in various other people-focused roles such as wedding photography. Matthew also brings a broad spectrum of experience to the pub having previously worked as an electrician, transit driver and weekend wedding DJ.
From first setting eyes on it, Stacey and Matthew could see the potential in the Crusader and have big plans to make it a community hub where everyone is welcome.
Stacey commented: “Myself and Matthew are so happy to have the doors at the Crusader open and to welcome in so many individuals from the local community. We truly want everyone to feel welcome and that they can make the pub their own.”
The pub has an excellent drinks offering too, with a good range of beers including Carling and John Smith’s. What’s more, there will also be weekly entertainment for everyone to come together and enjoy including darts and dominoes nights, open-mic nights, disco nights with tunes from the 80s and 90s, and everyone’s favourite – Karaoke.
Matthew said: “In addition to our weekly entertainment offers, we will also be welcoming local pool teams to play their tournaments here on our new pool table. We cannot wait to watch the games and hope you all can join.
“The community of Garforth is really important to Stacey, the team and I. We will be looking into future fundraising initiatives to support local charities and connect with those in the area.”
Stacey concluded: “The investment into the pub has really given it a new lease of life and we hope everyone loves it as much as we do. We cannot wait to celebrate our reopening with you all and raise a glass to the future of the Crusader, which we are so excited about.”
The Crusader will also be holding a launch party weekend from Friday 17 March to Sunday 19 March. Friday will be celebrating all things Irish as it is St Patrick’s day, so why not round up your friends and family and join Stacey, Matthew and the team for a tipple of whiskey. Saturday will see the pub transform into Vegas, as it will be a Casino Night! Games of ‘open the box’ and ‘play your cards right’ will be running throughout the night. Finally, Sunday will take on the Crusader’s regular Sunday Night entertainment of Karaoke, so get your singing voices ready.
