Doors to the popular Kings Arms pub are reopening this week [Friday 3 June] to serve the Taunton community just as the pub has done for hundreds of years.
The historic coaching inn on Staplegrove Road has been closed for a refurbishment project to ensure the pub has a bright future ahead and can be a home-from-home for local residents, businesses, sports clubs and social groups. The Kings Arms was looking after Taunton even before the town became renowned for its silver industry in the 19thcentury.
The town centre pub has kept all its character and added some contemporary extras to make sure today’s customers can really enjoy a great drink, meal, game of skittles, pool or darts, or watch a match in true comfort and style. It is open seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
New for 2022 is booth seating for groups and additional soft furnishings to make customers all the more comfy while they enjoy morning coffee, lunchtime refreshments, after-work drinks or a meal while watching a match. The décor has been given a makeover and there is a bright and fresh look throughout.
This is all part of an almost £400,000 investment in the neighbourhood local alongside the introduction of new tasty food and drinks menus by the award-winning Stonegate Group. It’s been a boost to the town’s employment too with 15 new jobs created.
The central location means it is a perfect spot for breakfast or a morning coffee, lunch or a night out. There are lunchtime offers and two-for-one of cocktails currently and Sunday lunches with all the trimmings are worth looking out for. As well as sports, there is a packed calendar of pub entertainment planned.
General Manager at The Kings Arms, Nick said: “We have kept all the old character of the pub and made the most of all the lovely features here. We are still the great community local which we have been for years. It’s been refreshed, reinvigorated and it has a great atmosphere. You can sit back and relax with a coffee, have a bite to eat with family or friends, drinks with your mates while you watch a match or pitch up and chill with a cocktail! It’s all good quality without the eye-watering prices. Come in and see.”
The Kings Arms, established in 1780, was formed from three cottages and has a quirky homely feel, prefect for a great British community local pub. It is one of Taunton’s oldest pubs with a great tradition and history in the town.
Nick added: “These latest works mean this lovely pub is ready to serve Taunton for many, many more years to come. Enjoy all that is great about a traditional pub with TV sport, pool, darts and skittles, live entertainment and music, great service and brilliant new food and drink menus to cater for all tastes and diets. It’s family friendly, pet friendly – we are simply your friendly neighbourhood local with lots going on!”
