Coventry’s Castle pub on Little Park Street re-opened this month under the new name, The Castle Grounds. The pub, which in part dates over 300 years, re-launched on Friday 4th December, celebrating its £300k refurbishment and the creation of ten new jobs, boosting the pub’s existing team.
General Manager Jim Gallagher welcomed customers through The Castle Grounds’ doors with a reception for invited guests from 5pm. Enjoying a glass of prosecco on arrival and tasters from the pub’s new menu, guests got the chance to take a sneak preview ahead of the pub’s official re-launch at 7pm. DJ led entertainment kicked off from 8pm.
Re-opening as a modern pub that transcends day to evening, The Castle Grounds opens from the earlier time of 8am every day to serve breakfast and freshly brewed coffee. Dishes such as pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, fruit and Greek yoghurt and a full English breakfast feature on the menu; making it an ideal stop to meet friends for brunch or as a place to relax and check emails over a coffee and a muffin.
Alongside the breakfast menu, the pub has introduced a brand new main menu, packed with delicious choices to suit the time of day and occasion. Sharing platers, traditional sandwiches packed with tasty fillings and a selection of healthy dishes, all under 500 calories, sit alongside a huge range of the pub food favourite, freshly prepared pies. Also featuring are a selection of burgers, freshly grilled dishes and classic home comfort pub food such as ale battered cod and chips prepared with the guest ale of the day.
The pub opens with its own ale, The Castle Grounds, a superb 4% ABV golden pale ale brewed by Jennings Brewery to mark the occasion. The pub has increased its range of both cask ale and craft beers with ten taps on the bar serving local cask beers Byatt’s Coventry Bitter, Sadler’s Ales’ Peaky Blinder and a seasonal Christmas ale. Craft beers on tap for opening were Meantime, Blue Moon and Brewdog IPA.
The Castle Grounds opens with a packed out schedule of offers and entertainment throughout the week. Monday 7th December saw the launch of a new pub quiz, whilst a special craft beer deal of £2.50 is available on all draught craft beer on Tuesdays. Wednesdays is ‘Crafty Burger’ day, when customers who buy any one of the juicy burgers on the menu get a pint of craft ale or a glass of cocktail for free. It’s also sports team night, during which The Castle Grounds’ sponsored teams from Coventry University join regulars in the pub. Thursday becomes poker night whilst on Friday and Saturday the pub ups the tempo with DJ led music and dance. As an added incentive fans of fizz can enjoy a bottle of prosecco every Friday for just £11.95. Customers are encouraged to enjoy lazy Sundays at The Castle Grounds, tucking into roast lunch and chilling to the sounds of Motown and Soul. Sports enthusiasts need step no further than the pub to catch all the best living sporting action. Nine BT Sport and SKY Sports linked television screens dotted around the pub, each with its own small group seating, make it perfect for mates to gather for banter, beer and great sharing platters.
Speaking about the refurbishment and renamed pub, Jim Gallagher said, “The new name reflects the change in style and offer for the pub. Now open from 8am for breakfast, The Castle Grounds can provide customers with a relaxed alternative to the coffee shop for breakfast, whilst still providing a fantastic community atmosphere and great evening entertainment that the British pub is renowned for.”
The pub will open at 8am on Monday to Saturday and at 11am on Sunday, closing at 11pm on Sunday to Thursday and at 2am on Friday and Saturday.
