Cardiff’s Pen and Wig pub has been listed in the Good Beer Guide for the fifth year running, commended for its commitment to maintaining its Welsh roots and supporting home grown businesses, with an expanded gin, cask ale and cider range.

Celebrating with a Welsh cask ale festival from the 19th September to 31st October, the pub will showcase in excess of 100 welsh beers in just six weeks. With appearances from none other than Brains, Otley, Brecon and an exclusive tap takeover by Tiny Rebel on the 4th October.

“Its no question that our Welsh ale is popular hence why we have a festival dedicated to it… but we have also tapped into the popularity of Welsh cider supporting local cider producers like Llanblethain Orchards, Palmers upland cider, Ty Gwyn, Hallets and Gwynt y Ddraig so we have all bases covered” said general manager Geraint Howells.

Add to that the newly expanded gin emporium and the best beer garden in Cardiff and it’s a concoction Welsh patriots flock from far and wide to get their hands on.

Fifty gins line the bar from niche newbies like; Daffy’s, Silent Pool, Curio, Bulldog, Rock Rose, Opihr, to both Lavender and Rhubarb gin and Welsh favourites Brecon special reserve gin and Brecon botanicals.

“With the gin revolution in full swing and a noticeable surge in gin sales in the past year we thought we ought to highlight the exciting niche brands popping up in Wales and the UK.

”We really pride ourselves on celebrating all things Welsh, making sure we cater to all tastes whilst keeping up with up with the trends of modern pub- goers,” added Geraint.

Branch Secretary of Cardiff CAMRA Brian Francis said: “This is a well deserved entry into the guide. Geraint is committed to serving quality real ales with something to suit everyone, a changing range with some customers even switching to real ale as a permanent tipple, on account of what the Pen & Wig does to ensure tip-top condition!”
