Popular Plymstock pub, the Drakes Drum, has reopened after an exciting six-figure investment, creating four new jobs for the local community.
A pillar of the community, the pub originally opened after World War Two and is named after legendary sea captain and former mayor of Plymouth, Sir Francis Drake.
According to legend, Sir Francis Drake had a drum he would take on his voyages and it was said that if England were ever to be in peril, the drum would sound and Drake would return to defend his country, which is where the popular pub receives its name from.
Nowadays, the pub resides as part of Stonegate Group’s Craft Union with the Drakes Drum closing on September 16th to undertake an extensive refurbishment with the community pub significantly upgrading its facilities.
The renovation has seen the pub’s covers increase by 13 with snug new furniture installed with the additions of poseur height tables and a luxurious new carpet all helping create a feeling of comfort found only at the Drakes Drum.

The dedicated sports zone is also equipped with HD TVs showcasing all the big matches, meaning you can enjoy some pub sport while supporting your team, with sports fans being able to witness every kick of the ball at the Drakes Drum.
Externally, the much-loved beer garden has been upgraded with the addition of pristine festoon lighting, inviting benches, and contemporary décor which can be found throughout the beloved pub.
Furthermore, a fresh splash of paint has equipped the pub with its best look yet while new blue signage throughout the Drakes Drum marks the start of a new chapter in the popular pub’s history.
Located on Radford Park Road, four-legged friends are welcome throughout the pub, with the community pub being a popular spot for guests popping in for a pint with their pooch.
The Drakes Drum also boasts a fine selection of beers, ciders and wine, all at some of the most competitive price points in the area. However, the pub also has an extensive offering of no and low alcohol offerings, ensuring all guests are accommodated to.
