Popworld on Lower Bannister Street, Southampton’s newest bar, celebrated their opening weekend with a live performance from Scott and Abs from boy band 5ive and a VIP party like no other. Popworld also received an impromptu visit from Iwan Thomas, the former European Commonwealth Champion and Channel 4 and E4 presenter, Rick Edwards.
Matt Challis, manager of Popworld said: “We had a phenomenal opening weekend which beat all of our expectations. It seemed like the whole of Southampton had come out to celebrate the opening of Popworld – we had a queue forming outside the bar before we had even opened. Everyone had a great time singing and dancing along to all the hits and there was a brilliant, fun-loving atmosphere, which is what we were hoping for.
“Scott and Abs really drew in the crowds and their performance was electric. We’ve had so much positive feedback from every element of Popworld, from the poptails (our word for cocktails) to the type of music we play, so it’s great to know we’ve hit the right note with our customers.
“As the live performance from Scott and Abs was so popular, we’re looking to see whether there is an appetite to host more live music nights on a monthly basis. We’re already thinking about hosting SClub7 and would like to hear feedback from our customers on which bands evoke feelings of nostalgia and we’ll try to accommodate them wherever we can.
“The team and I are delighted that Popworld is so popular. The whole Popworld experience is all about our team taking care of our customers so that they have a memorable night and want to return time after time. One of our team members summed up Popworld perfectly. They said it’s like being at a wedding party but without the wedding. You can dance like no one is watching and everyone feels relaxed and safe.”
