Holly Benson, the manager of Popworld, Bigg Market in Newcastle and team members at the bar, Robert Pyle and Darren Ness, are donning their trainers and pounding the pavements to get in shape for the Sunderland 10K run on Sunday 6th May.
The team will be raising money for the Bobby Robson Foundation and hope to raise £500 for the charity through donations.
Holly Benson said: “The team and I have a target to raise £2000 over the course of the year for a designated charity and we all agreed that the Bobby Robson Foundation was the perfect choice. We know that the money we raise will go towards helping local people and local projects which we hope will make a difference.
“We’re planning four events over the year and the Sunderland 10K is the first one. We’ve already signed up to the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and are in the process of organising a 5-aside football tournament with other pubs and bars in the area which should be competitive as well as lots of fun. Hopefully with all that activity we’ll get to our £2000 target with the support of our customers, friends and family.”
When asked how training was going, Holly replied: “It’s all going well and I’ve been training as much as I can by doing cardio training on the bike and running. I can manage 4km comfortably so I think I’ll have to up the training a bit as the date draws nearer. It should be a great day – I’ve heard that you get lots of support from the people who come out to watch the run so hopefully they’ll be able to encourage us go that extra kilometre!
“We’d like to encourage everyone who comes into Popworld to donate a pound or two to help us to raise money for a charity that helps so many people in the area.”
