Locals of a Walmley pub are celebrating as new signs have been put up as part of a £200,000 refurbishment that sees a special MP welcome this Friday 11th May.

Landmark pub ‘The Oak’ is back after a seven-year spell as the ‘Calder Green’. Owner Stonegate Pub Company restored the title locals had fondly continued to use to reference the pub anyway, despite its renaming, a nod to it’s original title, the ‘Oak ‘n’ Ash’.

A showcase event Friday 11th May offers customers the perfect opportunity to try out its new look with food, fizz, and beer tasters and local MP Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell is due to pop by to show his support, before a night of live music.

With a sporting promise, the pub that’s crazy about sports will show off its eight HD and big screens airing the Tony Bellew and David Haye bout live this weekend, kicking off a month of big football finals.

Now open for breakfast at the weekend, customers that love good old-fashioned proper pub food are in for a treat and as more people go out for their porridge and bacon and eggs, The Oak is now opening from 10am Saturday and Sunday.

The range of cask has never been better. With 1704 breweries in Britain, what community pub wouldn’t embrace the latest beer trends? National heroes and local treasures include beers from local Churchend and Green Duck breweries.

Big on community, everyone is welcome including pooches that get free treats and water bowls. There are family fun days on big weekends, such as bank holidays and there’s even plans to cheer locals up should England not do so well in the World cup!

Community spirited manager Jess Boyle explains: “Pubs are a huge part of local life so we work to make sure there is something for everyone whether it be an organised trip to the races, showing sports like NFL and Kabaddi, or putting on afternoon activities for our ageless retired, and young parent customers.”

Over seventy combination of meals offer reasons to visit too including two for £9.99, dishes for as little as £5.50, and every day deals from grill & a drink to 5-dish pick ‘n’ mix planks. Sunday roasts are also ramping up with handmade Yorkies, roasties and hand carved meats.

With every day of the week a pub day, there’s a great line up of entertainment:

  • Monday Free Pool – challenge a friend to a game or two or three, they’re all free!
  • Tuesday Kids Club – keeping little ones entertained so you don’t have to.
  • Wednesday – Poker night – bring your best poker face
  • Thursday – Quiz night – What’s the best day of the week to visit the pub?
  • Friday Fizz – pop the cork and fizzle out with Prosecco offers
  • Saturday live music getting the party started with monthly live bands
  • Sunday Rock & Roll Bingo – know your Wham from your Black Eyed Peas
