Regeneration and good news for Harlow town centre has arrived with a £300,000 investment into one of the town’s most prominent pubs.
The Clockhouse, on Eastgate, (ex Yates) sees a brand new name, a deliberate link to Harlow’s unofficial meeting place, alongside a fresh, modern look. Seven craft and cask ales; traditional Sunday roast; breakfasts served from 9am; vast and affordable food; sports; and high-energy weekends are all on the menu.
Locals and town planners alike will be celebrating from 5pm on Wednesday 10th August when the pub reopens after a month of refurbishment, just a week after the town’s market also moves to the Eastgate area. Tickets for the 5 o’clock VIP opening have been snatched up with the pub’s Facebook site /TheClockHouseHarlow offering just a few more. Band KO Jones from Hertfordshire is on stage playing an eclectic mix of upbeat tunes and chart toppers from 5pm-8pm with 2 DJs spinning the decks until midnight.
“Harlow has been so excited about this development,” reveals manager Hollie Crowhurst, “it’s a huge boost for the town’s economy, services and nightlife.” The development has also created 5 new jobs.
Enthusiasm is justified with a food menu attracting the every day diner, without breaking the bank. Lunchtime drink and meal combo is on offer at £5.49; fourteen dishes from hand battered fish and chips to classics like chilli con carne and lasagne, wow at £8.49 for two. ‘Mighty Mondays’ see big plate specials at £4.99 whilst Tuesday to Thursday brings burgers, pies, grills and classics with beer, wine, soft drink or coffee for under £6. Pick and mix platters, salads, great vegetarian choices and burger heaven are all available too.
Hothouse 13, Brewdog IPA and Blue Moon are the first crafts to satisfy the modern pub goer alongside a traditional cask range rotating nationally loved and regionally brewed ales.
Harlow keeps great sports viewing with the Clockhouse showing Sky and BT Sports.
Then the weekend lands! DJ nights every Friday and Saturday end with a 2am license, 3am on big weekends. VIP booths have been built in for groups of partygoers, available simply by booking in venue. Cocktails are 241 so every opportunity to try something new.
“Sunday roasts deserve a place in every great pub,” added Hollie, “so we’re going against the grain of some town centre pubs and putting extra special effort in for social Sundays, scrumptious roast with traditional evening quiz – what better way to end the weekend!”
