Craig Bulmer, General Manager of the Saltshouse Tavern in Hull, and four members of his pub team cycled 106 miles on Tuesday 31 August. They raised over £800, smashing their original target of £250, for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) 60th Birthday.
Starting at 8am, Craig and his intrepid team cycled a total of 106 miles between them on a static bike in the middle of the pub. The distance is the total miles between all the Stonegate Managed Pubs in the Saltshouse Tavern’s operational area.
Craig Bulmer, General Manager of the Saltshouse Tavern, said: “The British Heart Foundation is a wonderful charity, and we are so excited to be fundraising for them to help their cause. We knew we wanted to do something that we could all participate in, something that would help us keep fit and something we could do in our pub, surrounded by the support of our customers. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has already donated and sponsored us. Huge thanks must also go to JD Gyms, who lent us a static bike to complete the challenge. We would not be able to do this, without their generosity. JD Gyms have also committed to providing gym memberships as prizes for our charity auction later in the year to help raise further money for the British Heart Foundation.”
From July 2021 until the end of the year, over 800 managed pub teams at Stonegate will take part in various fundraising activities to support the UK’s leading heart charity.
When the BHF was founded in 1961, 7 out of 10 heart attacks were fatal. Now, at least 7 out of 10 people survive. Funds raised by Stonegate will go towards helping the BHF continue to pioneer medical breakthroughs which help the 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases.
Pub teams have been tasked with coming up with imaginative and creative ways of raising money for the charity as well as encouraging their customers to get involved.
Paul Davies, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the BHF said: “We are so grateful to Craig and his team at the Saltshouse Tavern for their support around our 60th Birthday.
“Over the last 60 years, we have funded ground-breaking discoveries including the first UK heart transplant, pacemakers and genetic testing for inherited heart conditions. The funds raised by our partners such as the Saltshouse Tavern, will help us keeping finding cures and treatments for the 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases.”
