The Adelphi, on Fylde Street in Preston, is hosting a charity Race Night this Friday 20th September, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. The event will kick off at 8pm and will feature eight horse races for customers to have a flutter on, as well as some ‘just-for-fun’ mini-quizzes in between runs.
Each tote bet will cost £1 or customers who want to up the stakes, can opt to play as the owner, jockey or trainer for each horse for £2. Half of each pot will be donated straight to charity and the other half stands to be split amongst the lucky winners.
Craig Almond, the general manager of the Adelphi and organiser of the event, has long been a supporter of the Alzheimer’s Society, even embarking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the charity a few years ago. He is determined to raise a significant amount of money at the pub, which has already contributed thousands of pounds to UK charities in 2019 alone.
Craig said: Craig said: “I feel very lucky to be of able body and of able mind, but I also feel responsible and want to do what I can to make a difference for those who aren’t as lucky to be as healthy as I am. Dementia is the UK’s single biggest killer and there is currently no cure for it.
“That alone has inspired the team and me at the Adelphi to do what we can about it. We hope our Race Night will provide the opportunity for people to come along, have a good time, all while raising money for a good cause – which would be a great achievement for a Friday night out in Preston!
“The Alzheimer’s Society is dedicated to providing support for people suffering from the disease tackling the illness on a social level and researching new treatments. Everything that we can raise through our Adelphi community I hope will go some way to making those goals a reality – because as they say, every penny counts!”
