The Red Lion pub on Amos Lane in Wednesfield celebrated this weekend having re-opened following a £200,000 refurbishment. Anticipation surrounding the new look Red Lion, which is owned by Stonegate Pub Company, had been high during its 10 day closure and it certainly didn’t disappoint as it swung open its doors to showcase the new look on Friday 27 April.
General manager, Gary Eddington said, “There was plenty of excitement about the new-look Red Lion and I think a lot of our customers have been quite bowled over by it. The pub looks incredible, with new décor, furniture and state of the art technology installed. It has a lovely homely atmosphere and feels like a local pub for locals, but at the same time we’ve brought in technology that people expect to have around them these days such as wifi and access to a laptop.
The Red Lion, hosted a celebratory red carpet party on Friday, treating customers, new and existing, to complimentary glass of champagne on arrival and tasters from the pub’s new menu. Resident band ‘’No-eye-deer’ ensured the Red Lion’s opening evening went with a bang, hosting an open-mic night for new and up-coming local acts and performers.
The party spirit continued into the weekend with fun activities for all the family including a bouncy castle and children’s games throughout Saturday. ‘The Commitments’ tribute band, ‘The Commandments’ took to the stage to a packed audience on Saturday evening.
“We wanted to create a pub that is the heart and soul of the community and a place that is welcoming and friendly”, added Gary, “Somewhere for people to meet and make friends, to enjoy good quality affordable food and drinks and be entertained. We’re in an age when technology is central to our lives and it is important for the pub to embrace it. By providing wifi, having a dedicated pc for customers to use when they pop in we can lead the way for local pubs.”
In addition to new décor, carpets and furniture throughout, the Red Lion has introduced information screens, a dedicated staging area with state of the art lighting and cameras for bands and entertainment nights and even a fully interactive camera-linked darts board so customers can view players from screens elsewhere in the pub.
The pub re-opens with a Spring Summer menu packed with dishes such as the deliciously light summery Pasta Penne Arrabbiata and freshly prepared Tandoori Chicken Salad. Customers can enjoy great value with ‘All Day Every Day’ meal deals that offer a selection of customer favourites anytime throughout the week.
“Whilst the pub was undergoing its refurbishment we spent time refreshing training for all the kitchen and front of house team”, said Gary “so the quality of our dishes and service our customers receive is second to none. We’ve increased the size of some of our customers favourite dishes such as the Sunday Roast served in a giant Yorkshire pudding and the king-size combo, whilst keeping prices down.”
