The well-loved Edgar Wood pub in Middleton is gearing up to reopen its doors on Thursday 27 July after a £179,000 investment by the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company.

The pub is in the heart of a historic town, and now, after its renaming five years ago, the Edgar Wood is writing a new chapter in the history book. This new era will feature a refreshed look and brand-new offerings for guests to look forward to.

During the pub’s short closure, extensive work has been carried out to revitalise the inside of the pub, with new décor, and an upgraded seating area, with new booths. The new additions inside and out make for the perfect space to enjoy drinks and great entertainment.

Throughout the week there will be lots that the local community can come and get involved with, including DJ and Karaoke nights and quiz nights, too. The sports offering has also been revamped as new HD TV screens have been installed, with Sky Sports and BT Sports, and will be showing all the live sports action, so you do not have to miss a moment.

As well as regular entertainment, the pub will also host a range of fundraising activities for local and national charities so that everyone can get involved. Once the venue reopens, its focused charity will be The Lighthouse Project, which they have frequently supported previously.

To pair with the new entertainment offering is the enhanced drinks menu, which features Carling lager, John Smiths and Birra Moretti, wines, spirits and more.

At the helm and ready to welcome back customers are Operators Jackie and William Meechan. The couple met in 1983 in their local pub in Scotland and were married six years later, going on to have three children. Willam has worked in the industry for many years, previously working at his friend’s bar, and reminiscing on his grandfather’s pub. He became a full-time landlord, and since then he and Jackie have run pubs across the North West of England and began their time at the Edgar Wood five years ago.

Jackie said: “We are so pleased to be part of the Edgar Wood’s next chapter, to witness it now flourishing with its stunning new look and offerings. The refreshed interior and exterior are wonderful, and we can’t wait for you all to experience the revitalised drinks and entertainment. As a true community pub, William and I cannot wait to welcome everyone back in to create unforgettable moments and share the joyous atmosphere.”

To celebrate the reopening of the Edgar Wood, Jackie and William will be holding a grand launch party weekend on Friday 4th August, Saturday 5th August and Sunday 6th August. Over the weekend guests can look forward to a DJ, Karaoke and raffles on Friday, a Glitz and Glam party on Saturday and Sunday Fun Day with live music and raffles for the Lighthouse Project.

William added: “Our grand launch party weekend is not to be missed! There is so much going on throughout the weekend that customers can get involved with, and we can’t wait to see you all there.

“We have missed all of our regular customers and look forward to welcoming new faces once the doors have opened. Jackie and I cannot wait to share this exciting new era with you all.”
