The diversity of a customary mayor alongside Emmerdale and ‘I’m a Celebrity’ hunk Adam Thomas is the mark of a distinctive £700,000 renovation at Selby’s iconic coaching inn.
The George Inn, (previously Londesborough Hotel), next to magnificent Selby Abbey, has its unique heritage captured in the reinstated original 15th century title, whilst the inn’s own late bar has been transformed into a contemporary space for Selby’s nightlife, renamed ‘Code Bar andamp; Club’.
Local Mayor, Councillor Steve Shaw-Wright, celebrated the town’s renewed amenity at The George Inn VIP event, Friday 3rd March; and ‘Code Bar andamp; Club’ welcomed partygoers on Saturday 4th March with the opportunity to schmooze with hottie Adam.
“The Inn provides an authentic experience for locals with original features preserving its character then we’ve also got twenty-five refurbished bedrooms which is great for local tourism,” said General Manager Richard Seaman.
“It’s a fabulous local with the Abbey suite available for private family gatherings and special occasions, along with the ‘Londesborough Conference Suite’ for business requirements. We’ve got the best in sports viewing facilities, LCD TVs and big screens airing Sky and BT Sports; cosy corners; to a lively bar area.
“Then there’s Code Bar andamp; Club, a totally modern venue with party music for all ages, keeping people in Selby for a great night out,” added Richard. “We are something for everyone.”
Craft beers Punk IPA and Blue Moon compliment the cask ale range including Black Sheep and Simco, local and national brews whilst cocktails offer classics such as Pina Colada and Sex on the Beach served by the glass or pitcher.
Two-for-one meals for £8.49 remain at the heart of the pub favourites food menu, fourteen options ranging from Baked Lasagne to Cheese andamp; Bacon Beef Burger. The menu range is vast from burgers; best selling battered fish and chips; and Mexican burritos; to pastas, salads and grills. From ‘Mighty Meal Mondays’, to ‘Sunday Social’ with Britain’s favourite roast and all the trimmings, there’s a different deal every day.
There are more than enough reasons to visit every day of the week, from Quizzes to Cards against Humanity fun and 25% discount for over 65’s and Wednesdays. Friday is a big night with 241 cocktails, ‘Fizz Friday’ and live music transitioning into Code Bar andamp; Club until 3am.
“The George Inn perfectly compliments the Abbey next door and the historic links. It’s been an exciting few weeks and we can’t wait to open,” enthused Richard.
