MP for Islington South and Finsbury and Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade, Emily Thornberry, took time out to visit The Three Kings, in Clerkenwell Close, within her constituency which has recently undergone a £250,000 investment.
The investment saw the pub’s interior completely revitalised, with the pub’s traditional look accentuated, alongside the addition of some contemporary features to optimise its operations and improve customer service. The Three Kings has also had a brand-new kitchen installed, seeing a new pizza offer at the pub, as well as revamping the garden to maximise the enjoyment of the summer months.
Emily Thornberry said: “It was great to meet Sean, General Manager at The Three Kings in Clerkenwell and the Area Manager, Danny Tompkins. It was a pleasure to attend the pub, to discuss the efforts being made by the business to create job opportunities and offer exciting training and development plans for those living in and around Clerkenwell, and further afield – as well as discussing some of the challenges that have faced the hospitality industry as a whole over the last 18-months. Congratulations to Sean and the team, and I wish them and The Three Kings every success for the future”.
Sean Bowles, General Manager of The Three Kings, said: “The Three Kings is an important part of the local community, and we were delighted that Emily came to meet the team and see the transformation of our business. We are a community pub in the heart of London and having the support of our local MP shows the importance of pubs like ours to the local area.”
Danny Tompkins, Area Manager for Stonegate Pub Company, said: “It was wonderful to meet Emily at the pub and we appreciate her visiting The Three Kings to see the transformation and to meet the local team. This investment forms part of our annual investment programme developing our pubs across the country providing enhanced community facilities, creating jobs and careers for people of all ages.
“Hospitality is an important business sector generating significant income for government and we are pleased that Emily recognises the importance of the local pub – especially given the challenges of the past 18-months. We are now looking forward to a summer without restrictions and delivering the excellent customer service and experiences we are known for.”
