Slug and Lettuce, on the Square in Winchester, is hosting a Singles Night in aid of Cancer Research UKon Sunday 25thAugust. The evening will be a relaxed, informal affair, held in the Grade II listed building’s upstairs bar.
Kicking off at 7pm, entrance is £10, all of which will be donated straight to charity. There will be a selection of games to participate in, as well as some kooky question and cue cards to help loosen the mood. The Slug and Lettuce team will also be on hand to ease through any awkward introductions and generally make sure everyone has a good time.
Downstairs in the main bar there will be gin tasting sessions held at 8pm and 9pm, where customers can sample delicious offerings from the local Twisted Nose Distillery, and Benjamin Hall’s Strawberry and London gins, made in Hensol Castle Distillery, using traditional Welsh family recipes. Deputy Manager and organiser of the event, Maddie Barter, is asking for a small donation to Cancer Research UK in exchange for a masterclass in the craft gins, as well as enjoying an array of creative gin cocktails. There will also be raffle tickets on sale throughout the evening, with a luxury hamper, filled with treats, up for grabs.
Maddie said: “Cancer has sadly touched so many of us, so Cancer Research will always be a cause that we all want to get behind. And, what better way to do it than when having a bit of fun too. The team and I have been concocting some really great ‘ice-breakers’ for people who want to take part and we’re hoping we’ll see a couple of Winchester’s newest couples leaving the bar at the end of the night!
“I hope our event is something that all our customers enjoy, while raising money for a good cause and that it’s something we can think about doing again in the future. It’s important for us all to do our bit for charity, and there’s no better place to do than with your friends and family in your favourite local bar!”
The event comes as part of Maddie’s participation in Stonegate Pub Company’s ‘Accelerator Programme’. The course is part of its award-winning development programme, designed to give staff the skills and knowledge they need to succeed and proceed within the company.
