The Black Horse Hotel at Skipton, reopened on Friday 8th June, after a £400,000 investment, that closed its doors for a month. Boasting almost four hundred years of Yorkshire history, the pub is marking out its future with a, putting locals of God’s own country right at its heart.
The pub celebrated its refurbishment with VIP event, that saw the Mayor of Skipton, Allan Hickman, alongside local residents, toast the opening with a glass of Prosecco or cask ale, while enjoying some tasty morsels from the new menu. The Black Horse boasts additional seating, a homely feel, and décor inspired by the town’s heritage, as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.
With its picturesque canal-side, historic steps – where King Richard III reputedly tethered his horse – as well as nearby Skipton castle, its little wonder The Black Horse is a prime destination for tourists. But, the traditional coaching inn is as important for locals, so from sports to a celebration of the town’s market day, beer from six North Yorkshire breweries, and a Diamond (OAP) Club for valued residents, owner Stonegate Pub Company, will ensure there will be plenty to keep the Britain’s happiest town*, happy.
“We’ve got a premium look as well as products including 20 gins and six beers, and a whole new entertainment programme,” said manager Julie Joyce. “We’re mindful that the reason tourists have swarmed here for years is to experience the great Yorkshire welcome, so by putting locals first, that’s naturally what we’ll offer.”
The building, erected in 1676 and Grade II listed, has a function room for up to 200 hosting traditional soul & swing events, as well as being available for hire. Sky sports and Sports Table Service have been brought in ready for the World Cup; traditional pub food ranges from 2-4-1 meals from £9.99 to Pie & Pint night at £5.99; and proving there’s ‘nowt like a proper brew’ – cask ales from Black Sheep, Keighley brewery, and Beer Monkey.
Eight new jobs have been created as a result of the investment.
