Slug and Lettuce in Milton Keynes has been selected to host the regional competition of one of the biggest sporting crazes sweeping the UK.
The bar on Savoy Crescent will be transformed into a sporting venue for the night on Tuesday 19 March when it hosts a leg of the Rollapaluza Roller Racing National Series tournament.
For those not familiar with rollapaluza, it is a unique cycle sport whereby two participants battle it out on a pair of custom-built rollers connected to a huge dial. With split-second-digital timing over a simulated 500m distance, speeds can reach in excess of 50mph. The event takes place accompanied by music and an MC and, as is anticipated, a large cheering crowd.
The sport is now in its fourth year in the UK and is swiftly gathering momentum as sports junkies flock to try out the high speed sport. The winner from the event on 19th March will join other regional winners from Bristol, London, Sheffield, Leeds, Glasgow and Birmingham at the Grand Finale in London on 13th April in London where each will be hoping to be crowned King of Spin or Queen of Cadence.
Prizes for the Milton Keynes night have been sponsored by Trek Bicycle Store in Milton Keynes.
“We are so excited to be hosting this event at Slug and Lettuce on 19th March”, said the bar’s general manager Chad Dicks. “Rollapaluza has taken off as a sport into the last year and awareness for it is beginning to be built. It’s a high speed adrenaline thrill for spectators, as well as competitors, with the music and the MC creating a brilliant atmosphere and a real theatrical experience. The event kicks off from 6pm and we’ll be offering our customers some fantastic deals too, such as two for the price of one curries during the evening.”
