The Slug and Lettuce on Colchester’s High Street has planned a raft of activity for the Diamond Jubilee Holiday which will appeal to all the family. In addition to offering a number of money saving deals, the bar has pledged to raise money over the course of the celebrations for St. Helena Hospice and they hope to raise £1000.
The celebrations start on Friday 1st June with Slug and Lettuce’s resident DJ, Essdee, getting people in the party spirit along with two-for-one cocktails from 4pm until close. Saturday evening sees a charity auction and raffle with all proceeds going to St Helena’s and the team at the bar will also be asking customers to donate £1 on the door for the hospice. DJ Essdee will be on hand to provide a musical backdrop encouraging customers to take part in the raffle with prizes generously donated from a range of local businesses.
Sunday is family day where Slug and Lettuce will be offering Kids Eat For A Quid. Children under eight years of age eat for just £1 when accompanied by an adult who is also dining. The team have also organised face painting for the children. As the sun goes down, the tempo goes up, courtesy of local DJ’s, Driversion who will be playing the best funk in town. Customers will be asked to donate £1 of the door and it’s two-for-one on cocktails from 4pm. Monday continues the money-saving theme with Happy Monday where its 50% off food all day.
The celebrations culminate on Tuesday, making the Slug and Lettuce the perfect place to unwind after all the non-stop activity over the weekend and watch the festivities planned for the Queen as the proceedings draw to a close. Find a sofa or an armchair and settle down for the day!
Speaking about the Diamond Jubilee, Andrew Lonergan, manager of the Slug and Lettuce said: “There’s a real sense of excitement around the Diamond Jubilee so we wanted to make the most of that by creating activity that would appeal to all the family by bringing everyone together without breaking the bank. We pride ourselves on offering quality food and drink at value for money prices in fantastic environment.
“As well as making sure our customers have a Diamond Jubilee to remember, we also want to raise £1000 for St Helena’s Hospice and are appealing to our customers to help reach that target. I’m taking part in an Iron Man competition later on in the year and the money that I raise through sponsorships will go towards the hospice who provide care and assistance to so many people, so I thought it would be good to combine business and pleasure to raise a significant amount for the organisation.
“We’d like to invite residents and visits to Colchester to join us at the Slug and Lettuce to raise a glass to the Queen and her sixty brilliant years as our monarch!”
