Slug and Lettuce in Richmond is hosting a fun-filled weekend of fundraising for The Poppy Factory. A variety of activities will be taking place from Thursday 7 November to Monday 11 November, all to support the cause.
The bar has teamed up with various local businesses who have kindly donated some fantastic prizes for auction. These include two-hour surfing lessons at Richmond Paddle Boarding, a tour of the Silent Pool Distillery in Surrey, vouchers for Sipsmith Distillery in Chiswick and horse-riding lessons, to name but a few.
Throughout the weekend, customers will have the chance to taste a special limited edition ‘Poppy Paradise’ cocktail. They can also expect memorable party nights on Friday and Saturday with representatives from the Poppy Factory dropping in to join the party.
On Sunday 10 November, customers can enjoy live music while watching the General Manager and the team take part in a charity cycle ride. Together, they will complete the distance of the London to Brighton cycle on an exercise bike in the venue.
There is also the opportunity to take part in the ‘poppies in a jar’ competition. For a donation of just £2, customers can guess how many poppy wristbands are in the jar, and person who gets closest to the correct answer will win a bottle of Prosecco. The winner will be announced on Monday 11 November.
All the money raised will be donated to The Poppy Factory, the UK’s leading charity for veterans with physical and mental health conditions.
There are thousands of unemployed veterans living with health conditions in the UK and the funds raised through this event will help The Poppy Factory provide the one-to-one support they need, enabling them to find the right jobs in their communities, giving them back their independence and dignity and in many cases improving their health and wellbeing.
Alvin Easterbrook, General Manager for Slug and Lettuce in Richmond, said: “I am incredibly excited to be hosting the event and working with The Poppy Factory. They are our neighbours here in Richmond and they do fantastic work supporting veterans. All of us here at Slug and Lettuce hope to raise as much as possible for them.
“I’d also like to thank all the local businesses who have donated prizes for the auction. It is truly heart-warming to see everyone getting on board and we encourage as many people as possible to come along, as there are some fantastic prizes to be won and it really is great to support such an important cause.”
Deirdre Mills, Chief Executive of The Poppy Factory, said: “I want to thank Alvin and the whole team at Slug and Lettuce in Richmond for their hard work and generous support.
“We encourage everyone to get involved, have fun and join our mission of supporting veterans with health conditions back to work. Every penny raised will help to change veterans’ lives.”
