Stonegate Group has invested £100,000 into publican Tim McTigue’s retro-football concept in Huddersfield. The site which was once known as Venn St Social has now been rebranded to Golaccio and is set to reopen on Friday 3rd May with a brand-new look and offering, as a sports bar with a twist.
Golaccio has been revitalised with an Italian inspired retro football theme throughout. The pub is positioning itself as an ultimate sport viewing destination in Huddersfield and a place to be amongst sports fans and music lovers alike.
Inside the venue, guests can expect to see the walls adorned with classic football shirts, scarves and posters from iconic Italian clubs, as well as stadium artwork, location posters and memorabilia to transport guests to the very best of 90s Italy. In addition to its internal makeover, Golaccio will also be reopening with four new large TV screens and a pull-down projector, perfect for catching all upcoming sporting action. When the football is not on, rugby league and union matches will also be aired, and the pub now sports a brand-new darts board, so there’s something for everyone, no matter your sport of choice!
Publican Tim McTigue, who is the mastermind behind the retro football concept, will be at the helm of the new Huddersfield venture and commented: “I am originally from Leeds and spent two years in London where I first brought the ‘Golaccio’ concept to in 2018. Later on, I introduced a Golaccio popup in Leeds which was also met with fierce enthusiasm, and I am now proudly bringing the concept to Huddersfield inside a fantastic site.”
Tim continued: “Golaccio is an ode to a 90s love affair with Italian football and it’s a huge endorsement that Stonegate believed in the concept to help me bring it to Huddersfield. The Golaccio team are looking forward to welcoming the community and visitors back to the venue, all are welcome!”
In keeping with the original concept, Golaccio will be reopening with its ever-popular quizzes as a central part of its operation. There will be a weekly general knowledge quiz and a monthly sports quiz as well as random interactive quizzes where guests can win free pints.
Venn St Social was renowned locally for its music offering and music lovers in Huddersfield will be pleased to learn that Golaccio will be maintaining a focus on high quality music entertainment. The pub plans to put on live music on Saturdays after the football, with a number of local indie bands in the pipeline to perform, as well as a variety of DJs.
Before the town centre site was Venn St Social, it was once known as Parish, which pub historian, Dave Green, argues is the oldest pub in Huddersfield, dating back to 1720.
Golaccio will be hosting an official launch party on Saturday 8th June, just as the UEFA European Football Championship buzz begins to grow, and guests will be in for a night of indie music and fantastic food and drink offers.
