Stonegate Group has won two awards at the British Institute of Innkeeping’s (BII’s) National Innovation in Training Awards (NITAs) 2022. The company won Best Apprenticeship Training Programme and Jemelle Bish, Stonegate’s Career Development Manager, won HR Manager of the Year. The awards were presented last night [Thursday 28 April] at an award ceremony in East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf, London.

The NITAs showcase individuals and businesses who put their people first, creating innovative training programmes and nurturing long term careers in the licensed trade.

Stonegate Group is delighted to be recognised for the innovative development of their award-winning in-house learning and development programmes. This includes extending Albert’s Theory of Progression (AToP), Stonegate’s development programme for both front and back of house colleagues, through the launch of Albert’s Accolade Apprenticeship which provides support and training for future General Managers. The number of colleagues participating in AToP continues to grow, currently over 2,300 are on a programme.

Stonegate Group has also launched Albert’s Interesting Map to Success (AIMS), a dedicated programme offering development and career pathways for head office and pub support teams. AIMs offers a broad range of apprenticeships, including MBAs for Senior Leaders in the company.

Tim Painter, HR Director at Stonegate Group, said: “Winning these awards is a fantastic achievement and great recognition for the HR and Learning and Development Team, as well as all the colleagues who have participated in the programmes. As part of delivering on our vision to raise the bar on British pub, by being the best for our people, guests and communities, our focus has always been to develop our people, and we are proud that throughout the challenges of the pandemic we continued to provide, and adapt, our learning and development programmes. We are delighted with the successful launch our new apprenticeships; we have already seen high levels of engagement and fantastic results with a number of colleagues graduating with distinctions.”

These awards follow Stonegate’s success at the Publican Awards earlier this year, with Craft Union Pub Company being named Best Community Operator.
