Locals celebrated at Swansea¹s famous Eli Jenkins last night, as the characteristic pub, with its very own revered landlord, reopened after an autumn makeover.
The city centre gem boasting authentic pub values still has local boy Mark Holloway manning the pumps after twenty-two years behind the very same bar, a script even the original Reverend Eli Jenkins character creator Dylan Thomas, couldn’t have foretold.
Humbly describing himself has ‘just a part of the furniture’, Mark said: “Eli Jenkins is one of those pubs where everyone is welcome, an escape in the middle of the day or a great night out, a pub depicted in books.
“We felt we need a refresh so we’ve created a little more room by going open plan, painted, restored and rejuvenated the décor, and brought in more real ale.”
Locals joined in the jubilations that included “meet the brewer” from Brain’s brewery, acoustic entertainment, and local DJ Danny Boy hosting music and Karaoke, with complimentary beer and new menu tasters.
Two new cask ales, SA Gold and Reverend James, have taken to the pumps whilst a new focus on gin including ten botanicals from chamomile, honeysuckle and pomelo infused Bloom London Dry Gin to oriental spiced Ophirdon the bar.
Food is now served from breakfast, eggs rarebit and traditional English from a ridiculously affordable £2.79. Pub favourites are back on the menu at two for £7.99with the likes of Cumberland Sausage & Mash or Fish & Chips whilst burgers, build your own sharers, grills and pies are all part of the Eli Jenkins story.
Tuesday’s Bingo accompanies Tuesday Club offering Carling, John Smith, Strong Bow & white wine for £2.40, ales £2.50 a pint. Thursday Quiz, Friday Poker and Karaoke with DJ Danny Boy and monthly Saturday Party Night offer even more reasons to visit.
